Biography
Sporting background
Tobias Lautwein grew up with athletics and played football from age six before knee problems prompted a switch to cycling at 16. He spent 15 years in cycling, the final five semi-professionally, then moved into duathlon and won German age-group short-course titles in 2016 and 2017. He also competed in obstacle races before discovering HYROX through Instagram and being immediately drawn to the format after his first race.
HYROX achievements
Lautwein won the HYROX World Championship in Leipzig in 2021 and the European Championship in Maastricht in 2022. He placed fourth at the 2023 European Championships before returning to the World Championship podium with third in Manchester that year. In 2024, he finished sixth at the World Championships in Nice.
